If you have previously taken LSP course #1464 (8 Technical credits) offered in CT in March 2019, you will be unable to use course #1464A to fulfill LSP renewal requirements during this 3-year period and the following 3-year period per 309 CMR 3.09 (2)(c).

Course Description:  
This four-hour course will introduce LSPs to horizontal directional drilling technology, discuss recent improvements to the technology and how it can be applied to improve site cleanup using existing and newer remedial technologies. The introduction to horizontal remediation wells will address site considerations when using horizontal wells vs. vertical wells, blind vs. continuous horizontal well design, and the advantages and applications of horizontal wells. Four specific uses will be discussed.

  1. Horizontal Air Sparge/Soil Vapor Extraction: Three brief case studies will demonstrate successful implementation of horizontal AS/SVE applications beneath active AST/UST facilities and the offsite properties surrounding the sites.
  2. Vapor Mitigation with Horizontal Wells: Three example sites will present how to mitigate sub-slab vapors with horizontal vapor mitigation wells.
  3. Horizontal Injection: Three award winning projects will demonstrate successful horizontal injection of ISCO chemicals and bio-amendments.
  4. Horizontal Groundwater Extraction - Example Site: Superfund Landfill:  One groundwater extraction well replaced a series of vertical groundwater extraction wells to gain hydraulic control and prevent leachate from migrating offsite beneath a residential area.

Instructor will leave sufficient time for a question and answer session at the end of the course.
