In Memoriam: Kristina Comley Washer (1995-2025)

We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Kristina Comley Washer, a thoughtful and driven environmental scientist, on June 9, 2025. Kristina was a member of the LSPA from 2021 to 2023 and, in June 2022, she was awarded an LSPA Scholarship.

Kristina was a rising leader in environmental health and remediation. A graduate of Bedford High School and Holy Cross, she was pursuing her master’s in Civil & Environmental Engineering at Tufts University, and where she earned the prestigious Hanes Endowed Fellowship for her research at the intersection of pollution, public health, and environmental risk.

Kristina was an environmental scientist at Carriage House Consulting, Cooperstown Environmental LLC, and Embree, LLC, where she specialized in site remediation, hazardous waste assessment, and environmental sampling, advising on environmental and occupational health issues. Kristina’s contributions were global and diverse: conducting marine biology research in the Turks and Caicos Islands, joining a National Geographic expedition in Mauritius, undertaking a Fulbright-supported project in the Galápagos, and assisting with EPA-guided remediation efforts.
