Environmental Justice Grant Program

The LSPA launched its EJ Grant program in 2023 for its 30th anniversary. After being well received in the state and awarding grants to five organizations, we are pleased to be continuing this program in 2025. Through this program, the LSPA provides small grants to not-for-profit environmental advocacy groups, community-based groups, environmental education organizations, and/or volunteer efforts for local projects that benefit the environment in Massachusetts communities with EJ populations.

The LSPA is interested in opportunities to meaningfully contribute to and participate in EJ efforts at the community level, and hopes these grants will assist recipients in implementing community-driven projects that provide a better understanding of local environmental and public health issues and assist communities in developing strategies for addressing those issues — through both direct programming as well as future planning, career, and/or education efforts.

Request for proposals for grants to support and celebrate environmental and natural resource projects in EJ Populations in Massachusetts are solicited starting in February of each calendar year, with applications due by the end of July of the calendar year. The application process for 2025 is closed.

For purposes of this grant, an EJ Population is one that has experienced disproportionately higher human and environmental health risks and impacts as compared to the larger community.

More information on this program, including grant guidelines, timeline for proposals, and criteria for submissions are available here. We encourage you to share this information widely.
