Course Description:
The topic of the presentation is a natural outgrowth of the LSPA Loss Prevention Committee’s annual review of NOAFs, wherein Nature and Extent is an oft-cited category of deficiency. This presentation provides an overview of the importance of the Conceptual Site Model (CSM) with a focus on defining disposal site boundaries; approaches to and recommendations for defining disposal site limits; challenges encountered; and legal, technical, and other factors.

This presentation will assist LSPs and add value to the LSP community by:

  • Discussing the importance of a robust CSM and REDUA policy components;
  • Identifying acceptable and unacceptable criteria for use at the outset of identifying disposal site boundaries;
  • Emphasizing that there is no direct connection between property boundaries and disposal site boundaries;
  • Addressing the complications posed by multiple releases and multiple media while defining disposal site boundaries;
  • Exploring steps to take when property access is denied; and
  • Explaining when it is acceptable to seek assistance from MassDEP in gaining property access.

The presentation is moderated by Larry McTiernan, LSP, Chair of the LSPA Loss Prevention Committee. The Q&A from the original presentation is included at the end of the webinar.
