This member meeting presentation has been approved by the LSP Board of Registration for 1.5 LSP Technical credits.

Meeting Description:

The first portion of this program will be presented by several LSPs working on PFAS issues from a variety of perspectives.  The second portion of the program will consist of presentations from representatives of four waste management companies providing options for management of PFAS-contaminated environmental media.

The meeting will be moderated by Kerry Tull, Co-Chair of the LSPA Technical Practices Committee.  After each section there will be time set aside for Questions and Answers.

Overview of State PFAS Interagency Task Force
Presented by Jeffrey Arps, LSP, Tighe & Bond

  • Legislative charge and members of Task Force  
  • Overview of recent testimony, including his own
  • Final report and recommendations

Update on Two LSPA WES Grant-Funded Research Projects
Presented by Civil & Environmental Consultants (CEC), and Woodard & Curran

The LSPA WES Grant provides funding for research projects directly related to advancing the state of the practice of rendering LSP Opinions or the professionalism of LSPs participating in the MCP program.   Read for more information.

  • CEC’s project is entitled “PFAS in New England: Ubiquitous or Not? An Assessment of Data from Known Sites”.  An update was recently provided at the AEHS East conference.
  • Woodard & Curran’s project is entitled “Evaluation of PFAS in rain across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.”

PFAS Waste Management
Presenters are Addie Burden, US Ecology; Rob Martin, CleanEarth; Kyle Kennedy, GlobalCycle; Chris Kailher, Clean Harbors and AnnieLu Dewitt, Clean Harbors

Each representative of these four waste management companies will provide information on the acceptance of PFAS-contaminated media at their facilities, discuss treatment options (including thermal desorption, incineration, closed loop systems, filtration services, etc.) and successful outcomes, challenges, and specific requirements for acceptance.
