Presentation Description:
This presentation will provide LSPs with practical takeaways and lessons learned from the LSPA Loss Prevention Committee’s (LPC) review of MassDEP’s Bureau of Waste Site Cleanup (BWSC) Notices of Audit Findings (NOAFs). The LSPA reviews these NOAFs annually to provide insight into and better understand what has caused a disposal site to be out of compliance and what actions BWSC has determined need to be taken to return to compliance.  Understanding common mistakes helps LSPs proactively develop more thorough and defensible assessment, remediation, and documentation activities and remain in compliance with the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP).

The meeting will focus on key takeaways from FY 21 NOAF reviews on the topic of Human Health and Ecological Risk Assessment. Presentation outline is below:

  • Overview of LPC’s NOAF Review Process
  • Observations and Trends
  • Key Takeaways by Topic
    • Hazard Identification
    • Exposure Assessment

    • Eco-Risk Assessment
    • Miscellaneous

The presentation will also include a 10-minute Question & Answer period at the end, moderated by Larry McTiernan, LSP at Roux Associates and Chair of the LPC.
