This course is approved for 6.0 LSP technical continuing education credits (#1534). This is a repeat course that was previously offered in May 2018. This course will be submitted for NY PE and NY PG credits. Registration will begin at 7:30 AM; the course will begin at 8:00 AM and end at 3:00 PM. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Course Description: 
This combination classroom and field course (weather permitting) is designed to introduce LSPs to some of the tools and processes surveyors use to conduct their work; it will explain the basic principles and techniques that environmental professionals and LSPs should be aware of, and use, to both locate and check the location of critical objects and features at their sites. The course will explain how better location data will help prevent errors in and improve conceptual site models (CSMs) and reduce costs and/or risks of exposures resulting from incomplete or incorrect CSMs. LSPs will learn current surveying techniques, how and when to use them, and when it is advisable to use a professional licensed surveyor (PLS) and when less formal location methods can be used. This course will include an introduction to common reference coordinate systems which allow incorporation of location data into Graphical Information Systems (GIS). (Note that NYSDEC already requires that all sampling locations be geolocated and data submitted to NYSDEC such that it can be incorporated into a state GIS database.)
