Presentation Description:
This presentation will focus on case studies of two urban construction projects that are also MCP sites, one in Fall River and one in Worcester. Each has complex issues including the need to manage large quantities of contaminated soil, and coordination with local and state governments.

600 Davol Street, Fall River
Presented by: Joe McLoughlin, LSP, Vice President, BETA Group, Inc.

This property consists of two man-made piers and natural features along the Taunton River; in the early 2000s, PCBs were discovered in soil at the pier areas. Since then, Fall River has used various Brownfield and City funding sources to remove and consolidate impacted soil, rebuild the pier walls, cap the site, and build the recreation area.

Polar Park and Madison Commons Redevelopment, Worcester
Presented by: Patricia M. Pinto, PE, LSP, Senior Vice President, Sanborn, Head & Associates

The Polar Park and Madison Commons redevelopment has been a transformational project for Worcester. Redevelopment of the site, which is the location of several prior MCP releases, is being performed under a RAM, the primary objective of which is to manage contaminated soil and groundwater during the redevelopment project.

Presentations will be followed by a Q&A session moderated by a member of the LSPA Regulations Committee.
